He spent many years working as a bartender at the long-closed Back Yard Bar in Cruz Bay before joining with Moe Chabuz to open Skinny Legs in 1991. I started out with them at the beginning. Doug was my friend and father in his own way and he taught me so many good things. He will always be in my heart. Thanks Moe is letting me make this page in his memory. - Mean JeanSign the guest book on the Home Page |
Cap’n Fatty Goodlander said in best in this excerpt from Seadogs, Clowns and Gypsies Doug knows more about
a lot of the people than he wants to. He’s a friend, confidant,
and father confessor to half the people on the island. He’s often
hunched across the bar, earnestly talking to a customer – eyes
darting everywhere for a refill signal – listening to a Life Story. |

I googled Doug Sica and came up with some funny things. Click here for a link to one of my favorites by Paul Daughtery I also found comments on line and
from e-mails to share:
"I just kind of thought that on STJ some things would always stay as they were and some people would always be there. " "Doug did a great job livin the dream - seemed to overstand what a great life it is. Hopefully he has caught up with Howie. Peace " Here are some from the guest book: This message is almost impossible for me to write. My Uncle meant so much to me, I will never forget the great smile and laugh of his. Uncle Doug...I miss you and love you. I have so many good memories of him. Love, your nephew, Matt
Please let everyone know how much we miss my brother, and what a great person that he was. Love, Nancy Guglielmo -Doug’s Sister
Fortunately we had an opportunity to spend some time with Uncle Doug in November 2005, not long before his passing. That was a day I will never forget, as in 6 short hours we had more fun than you can imagine. Thank you Uncle Doug, We love and miss you....Your nephew Arthur
Thinking about Doug. This was a great saloon man. A breed apart. Seemed always to enjoy the world of burgers, rum and beer, customers, bartenders, waiters and waitresses. He was a great glad hander, name recaller, and he was quick with dry t-shirts for our youngin's after a retreat to Skinny's from a downpour. We here in Greenwich Village spoke of him last night, remember him fondly, and feel the deep sadness of this fabulous character who knew the value of a gin mill. Bon voyage. - Greg |
